DC Matiari orders advance measures for heatwave, monsoon preparedness

HYDERABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Apr, 2026) Deputy Commissioner Matiari Muhammad Yousif Shaikh has said that it is important to make preparations in view of the possible heatwaves and upcoming monsoon rains in the district so that any emergency can be handled effectively and the protection of life and property of the public can be ensured.

According to a handout, he expressed these views while presiding over a meeting of the district disaster management authority (DDMA) Matiari held at the Deputy Commissioner Secretariat.

During the meeting, precautionary measures to prevent heat waves, the establishment of relief centers, the provision of emergency medical facilities by the health department, and ensuring the availability of water were discussed. The deputy commissioner directed the health department to establish “Heatwave Relief Rooms” during extreme heat, where affected people can receive immediate medical assistance.

The education department was instructed to make special arrangements during examination days to protect students from heat, so that no child suffers from dehydration.

NGOs and relevant departments, especially the local government, were directed to establish relief camps for the public, where travelers and citizens can have access to cold drinking water and seating facilities.

The business community, petrol pumps, and other public places were also urged to install water coolers. Regarding monsoon rains, contingency plans were sought from all departments. Instructions were also issued to improve drainage systems in both urban and rural areas, strengthen embankments, and enhance rescue operations. The local government department was directed to improve the drainage system under the supervision of assistant commissioners.

Additionally, directions were given to identify and monitor buildings in vulnerable conditions and to ensure the cleaning of roofs and government office buildings to prevent rainwater accumulation.

Regarding roads, the concerned authorities were instructed to complete the repair of damaged roads at the earliest to avoid inconvenience during rains.

The Deputy Commissioner directed all relevant departments to maintain complete coordination and communication among themselves and ensure prompt action in any emergency situation.

The meeting was attended by ADC-I Waqas Mallook, ADC-II Iqra Jannat, Assistant Commissioner Matiari Abdul Sattar Shaikh, Assistant Commissioner Hala Dr. Mazahir, Assistant Commissioner Saeedabad Abdul Shakoor Solangi, DHO Dr. Asif Hussain and officials of other relevant departments.
