DC orders crackdown on unsafe boats

BAHAWALPUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 30th Mar, 2026) Deputy Commissioner Syed Hassan Raza chaired a meeting of the District Emergency board to review comprehensive measures aimed at effectively handling potential emergencies and ensuring the safety of citizens’ lives and property across the district.

The meeting focused particularly on strengthening safety arrangements at crossing points, ferry sites, and other sensitive locations along the Sutlej River. A detailed review was conducted of all temporary crossings and boat-operated transit points along the river.

The deputy commissioner directed that the availability of life-saving jackets for all passengers be ensured without exception and strictly prohibited the operation of any boat lacking essential safety measures.

He further ordered regular inspections of all ferry points and crossings, emphasizing that immediate improvements must be made wherever safety arrangements are found lacking.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner (General) Ayesha Khan, Assistant Commissioner Bahawalpur City Khalil Ahmed, Assistant Commissioner Bahawalpur Saddar Hamza Ehtesham, while assistant commissioners from other tehsils participated via video link. Officers from relevant departments were also present. Concluding the session, participants reaffirmed their commitment to adopting a coordinated and effective strategy to tackle any emergency situation in Bahawalpur, ensuring that all available resources are utilized to safeguard the lives and property of citizens.
