DC review Muharram processions' route, security, arrangements

JHELUM, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 4th Jun, 2026) Deputy Commissioner (DC) Mir Raza Ozgen on Thursday conducted a detailed inspection of the main Muharram procession route from Imambargah Zainabia to Bait-ul-Abbas to review arrangements for the upcoming observances.

District Police Officer (DPO), Shafeeq Ahmed Chaudhry accompanied the deputy commissioner.

During a briefing, the deputy commissioner was informed that more than 700 majalis (religious gatherings) and around 160 small and large processions were expected to be held across the district this year.

The administration has directed relevant departments to ensure cleanliness along procession routes, repair damaged roads, and address hanging electricity wires ahead of the holy month.

The security officials told the meeting that all majalis and processions would be monitored through CCTV cameras, walk-through gates, and a heavy police deployment.

Access to subsidiary routes will be restricted, with entry permitted only through designated checkpoints.

The deputy commissioner and DPO stressed that no compromise would be made on security and said cooperation with the peace committee and religious scholars would help maintain an atmosphere of harmony and brotherhood during the holy month.

The Municipal Committee, WAPDA and the Health Department have been instructed to remain on high alert and complete all necessary arrangements well before the start of Muharram.
