DC SBA chairs meeting to review preparedness for upcoming monsoon season

NAWABSHAH, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th May, 2026) Deputy Commissioner Shaheed Benazirabad, Abdul Samad Nizamani, here on Wednesday chaired a meeting at Darbar Hall, to review preparedness for the upcoming monsoon season.

The meeting focused on addressing potential challenges by ensuring the desilting of sim Nalas, storm water drains, and disposal channels, as well as resolving electricity load-shedding issues. On the occasion, the Deputy Commissioner directed all concerned officers to ensure complete cleaning (desilting) of all drainage systems across the District before the onset of monsoon rains. He emphasized that accumulated silt, garbage, and other obstructions in drains must be removed immediately to prevent any disruption in water drainage and to protect urban areas from flooding.

The DC also instructed municipal corporations and town committees to expedite cleanliness operations in their respective areas and ensure that all drainage systems remained fully functional. Officials of LBOD and relevant engineering departments were also directed to ensure all disposal systems within their jurisdiction should be operational.

The issue of load-shedding was also discussed in detail during the meeting. Deputy Commissioner instructed HESCO authorities to ensure uninterrupted power supply to disposal and pumping stations during the monsoon season so that drainage operations were not affected.

He also stressed upon the need for alternative arrangements to handle any emergency situations. The Deputy Commissioner urged all relevant departments to work in close coordination and maintain effective communication, while devising a proactive strategy to deal with any possible rainfall or emergency.

He made it clear that negligence or complacency in this regard would not be tolerated. Mayor Qazi Muhammad Rasheed Bhatti informed the meeting that Municipal Corporation was preparing a contingency plan for the monsoon, under which all machinery would be made operational and staff duties would be assigned in shifts. Officers from various municipal and town committees also briefed the meeting on their ongoing preparations.

The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Saddam Hussain Memon, XEN HESCO Aziz Bhutto, Municipal Commissioner Abdul Razzaq Shaikh, Engineer Yaseen Bhangwar, XEN Public Health Muzaffar Hussain Zardari, Deputy Director Local Government Muhammad Sabir Otho, and other concerned officials.
