DDWP clears two major development schemes for Larkana

LARKANA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Apr, 2026) The Departmental Development Working Party (DDWP) of the Local Government and Community Development Department, Government of Sindh, has approved two significant development schemes for District Larkana, to be implemented during the fiscal year 2026-27.

The meeting was chaired by the Secretary of Local Government, Government of Sindh, at his office in Karachi. The session was attended by Special Secretary Technical, Azhar Ali Shah; Special Secretary Local Government, Ghani Shaikh, Chief Engineer, Zulfiqar Ali Abro, the Additional Secretary of Planning and Development; and representatives from the Finance Department.

Deputy Commissioner Larkana, Tariq Manzoor Chandio, along with the Assistant Executive Engineer of the Buildings Division, Larkana, participated in the meeting and apprised the forum of the importance of both schemes for the city. He conformed to APP about the approved Schemes, Municipal Stadium, Larkana, Originally constructed in the early 1970s, nearly six decades ago. DC Larkana briefed the meeting that Larkana is now the third-largest city in Sindh by population, and the existing stadium is insufficient to meet the needs of the growing youth population. The approved scheme includes the restoration of the existing structure, construction of new sports facilities, upgrading of seating areas, tracks, and the provision of modern amenities. The project aims to promote sports, provide healthy engagement for youth, and host district and provincial-level tournaments.

Second scheme is beautification, restoration, and development of various parks in Larkana City, The Deputy Commissioner informed the DDWP that the current parks are dilapidated and lack basic facilities.

This project will include landscaping, walking/jogging tracks, children's play areas, benches, lighting, and tree plantation. These upgraded parks will not only enhance the city's beauty but also provide citizens with safe, open spaces for recreation, exercise, and healthy social activities.Key Points Highlighted by DC Larkana stated that Larkana's population has expanded rapidly; it is Sindh's third-largest city, yet public sports and recreational infrastructure has not kept pace.The Municipal Stadium requires urgent restoration to help channel youth engagement and deter negative activities by promoting sports. Parks are essential for public health, the environment, and the quality of urban life. Their beautification will directly benefit families, women, children, and senior citizens. Both schemes will improve the overall urban environment and livability of Larkana city.After detailed deliberation, the DDWP approved both schemes. They will be included in the Annual Development Program for the fiscal year 2026-27 and executed through the Buildings Division under the Local Government Department.

Deputy Commissioner Tariq Manzoor Chandio thanked the Secretary of Local Government and the DDWP members for approving these long-awaited schemes. He stated that the timely completion of these projects would fulfill a significant public demand and play a vital role in youth development and the urban progress of Larkana.
