Death anniversary of Dr. Nabi Bakhsh Baloch observed

HYDERABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th Apr, 2026) The 15th death anniversary of Dr. Nabi Bakhsh Baloch was observed on Monday.

A distinguished scholar, intellectual, and researcher, Dr Nabi Bakhsh was born on December 16, 1917, in the village of Jaffar Khan Leghari in Sanghar district.

He started his early education at High school Noshehro Feroze and graduated from Junagarh College.

He earned his master’s degree in Arabic from Aligarh University and completed his doctorate at Columbia University in 1946.

Dr. Baloch’s contributions to literature and academia earned him numerous accolades, including the Tamgha-e-Pakistan, Sitara-e-Quaid-e-Azam, Pride of Performance, Aizaz-e-Kamal, and Sitara-e-Imtiaz, among many other awards and shields.

In 1951, he joined the University of Sindh as a professor at its Institute of Education.

He later served as the Director and the first Dean of the Faculty of Education. From December 1973 to January 1976, he held the position of Vice Chancellor of the university.

Beyond academia, Dr. Baloch made significant contributions in various capacities: he served as Federal Minister of Education, Secretary of Culture, Director of the Institute of Islamic History and Civilization, Vice Chancellor of International Islamic University, Advisor to the National Hijrah Council, Chairman of the Sindhi Language Authority, and as a Provincial Caretaker Minister for Education and Agriculture

Dr.Baloch was also an active member of several educational and research organizations.

A prolific writer and researcher, Dr. Baloch authored numerous works on Sindh’s history, language, culture, and heritage. Fluent in Sindhi, Persian, Arabic, and urdu, his most renowned achievement was the compilation of Shah Abdul Latif jo Risalo, a ten-volume masterpiece.

He also made an invaluable contribution by compiling the Sindhi dictionary, a cornerstone of linguistic preservation.

Dr. Nabi Bakhsh Baloch passed away on April 6, 2011.
