Departments on 24-hour alert for water drainage: Lahore commissioner

LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 23rd Jul, 2026) The first spell of light-to-moderate rain started in Lahore Thursday morning, during which 50mm of rain was recorded in the city till afternoon.

According to Commissioner Lahore Nauman Yousaf, heavy rain is falling in the areas of Gulberg and Tajpura, in view of the rain, all the relevant departments are on 24-hour alert for rainwater drainage operations.

Commissioner Lahore has directed the Assistant Commissioners to ensure the presence of teams in hotspots and low-lying areas in their respective tehsils and to personally monitor the drainage operations.

He directed that the roads should be kept clear at all times to maintain traffic flow on the main and secondary highways, while immediate drainage of rainwater from the main highways and underpasses should be ensured.

The Lahore Commissioner directed the field teams of all relevant institutions including WASA, Municipal Corporation Lahore (MCL), LDA, CBD and RUDA to remain active at their respective points and respond immediately to any emergency situation.

He further said that all machinery should be kept near low-lying areas and hotspots, while in areas with power outages, disposal stations should be kept fully functional through generators, all pumps of disposal stations should remain operational and timely cleaning of screens should also be ensured.

The Lahore Commissioner also directed all the town directors of WASA to continue continuous monitoring of their respective areas and utilize all available resources for immediate drainage of rainwater.
