DG KHAN, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Feb, 2026) About Rs12 billion mega sewerage project aimed at transforming the urban sanitation system of Dera Ghazi Khan came under detailed review during a visit by Secretary Housing, Urban Development and Public Health Engineering Noor-ul-Amin Mengal on Tuesday.
Accompanied by Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Usman Khalid, the secretary inspected ongoing works under the Punjab Development Programme, where officials said the Rs12 billion initiative is designed to deliver a modern, sustainable and efficient sewerage network to the city.
Managing Director WASA Malik Jawad Kaleem briefed the visiting delegation on the pace and technical progress of the project. During the visit, the secretary also inspected two RCC pipe manufacturing factories established specifically for the scheme. One facility is producing 72-inch diameter pipes, while three units at another factory are manufacturing RCC pipes ranging from 42 inches to 12 inches in diameter.
The delegation reviewed production processes, quality assurance measures and construction speed, emphasizing adherence to technical standards.
At Masoomabad Road, officials demonstrated the laying and jointing of a 24-inch HDPE pipeline, along with installation work on the ongoing sewerage line.
Secretary Mengal expressed satisfaction over the quality of work, technical compliance and safety measures adopted at the site. He termed the project a significant milestone for improving urban infrastructure and civic services in Dera Ghazi Khan, stressing the importance of timely completion and maintaining high construction standards.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Usman Khalid said strict monitoring mechanisms were in place to ensure both quality and punctual completion of development projects, adding that improved sewerage infrastructure would bring long-term relief to residents and contribute to healthier urban living conditions.
The project, officials believe, is expected to significantly enhance wastewater management and set the foundation for a cleaner and more resilient city environment.
