DHO Dr Shehzad pays tribute to Polio workers for their tireless services in protecting children

ABBOTTABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th May, 2026) District Health Officer (DHO) Abbottabad, Dr Shehzad, has paid rich tribute to polio workers for their unwavering dedication and sacrifices in the fight against poliovirus, stating that frontline health workers are playing a historic role in securing a healthy and safe future for the children of Pakistan.

In a statement issued in connection with ongoing anti-polio efforts, Dr Shehzad said that polio workers are the real heroes of the nation who leave behind their families and work tirelessly in difficult conditions to ensure that every child receives life-saving polio vaccine drops. He said their commitment and hard work reflect a strong sense of national responsibility and public service.

The DHO said that the government, health department, and international partner organizations are continuing coordinated efforts to eradicate polio completely from the country, adding that frontline workers remain the backbone of the anti-polio campaign.

He appreciated the services of male and female health workers, supervisors, area in-charges, and security personnel who participated in door-to-door vaccination campaigns across urban and remote areas of the district.

Dr Shehzad emphasized that protecting children from lifelong disability caused by poliovirus is a collective responsibility of society. He urged parents to fully cooperate with vaccination teams and ensure that children under the age of five receive polio drops during every campaign.

He further stated that despite challenges, polio workers continue to perform their duties with courage and determination to make Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Pakistan polio-free. “Our polio workers are our pride, and the nation salutes their sacrifices and commitment for safeguarding the future of our children,” he added.

The DHO also reiterated the Health Department’s commitment to strengthening routine immunization and public awareness campaigns to eliminate the virus completely and provide every child with a healthier future.
