Digital revolution in Makkah, Holy sites: 24.5 mln calls recorded on 10th Dhul-Hijjah, data usage surpasses double

MAKKAH MUKARRAMAH, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 29th May, 2026) The Saudi Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) has released key performance indicators for telecom networks in Makkah and the Holy Sites on the 10th of Dhul-Hijjah, 1447 AH indicating that the total number of calls made on the tenth day of Dhul-Hijjah reached approximately 24.5 million, comprising 20.9 million domestic calls and 3.6 million international connections.

Mobile internet performance also reached unprecedented milestones during the period, with data speeds peaking at 361 Mbps, while daily data consumption per capita averaged 1,372 MB more than double the global average.

In line with the directives of the Saudi government, the telecom and technology sectors successfully accommodated this massive volume of data and communication traffic while maintaining the highest quality of service. High-speed downloading capabilities were deployed to guarantee seamless, uninterrupted domestic and international connectivity for the guests of Allah. Every year during the Hajj season, state institutions in the Kingdom remain actively engaged in providing foolproof arrangements and comprehensive amenities to ensure the comfort and well-being of the pilgrims.

To ensure uninterrupted communication services across the ritual sites, an extensive network comprising thousands of advanced antennas and cellular towers has been deployed. Furthermore, cutting-edge "flying tower" technology utilizing unmanned aerial vehicles (drones) was being leveraged to enable rapid intervention and guarantee 100 percent network coverage, eliminating potential signal disruptions across all areas.

Advanced technologies, including Artificial Intelligence (AI) and the Internet of Things (IoT), have been integrated to analyze and manage network loads in real-time. This sophisticated infrastructure not only mitigates digital congestion but is also being utilized to efficiently manage traffic flow, pedestrian movement, and emergency response services. Additionally, telecom operators have introduced specialized, short-term high-capacity roaming and visitor packages that could be easily activated, ensuring pilgrims remain continuously connected with their loved ones worldwide
