Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor’s ancestral homes near to ruins amid official neglect

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th May, 2026) The ancestral homes of legendary Indian actors Dilip Kumar and Raj Kapoor in Peshawar have fallen into severe disrepair due to alleged government negligence, with both historic buildings now close to collapse.

The two iconic actors, who ruled South Asian cinema for decades, were originally linked to Peshawar, where their family homes still stand. However, instead of being preserved as cultural heritage sites, the properties' condition have deteriorated because of years of neglect.

Dilip Kumar’s ancestral house, located in Mohallah Khudadad, once echoed with life and celebration but now presents the look of an abandoned structure. Large sections of the roof have collapsed, while walls continue to crumble into debris.

Residents and heritage enthusiasts say the historic property urgently requires restoration before it is lost forever.

Meanwhile, Raj Kapoor’s historic mansion in Dhaki Nalbandi, once admired for its unique architecture and regarded as a symbol of Peshawar’s cultural identity is also on the verge of destruction. Heavy rains and recent earthquake tremors reportedly weakened the structure further, leaving deep cracks in the walls that could lead to a major accident at any time.

There is growing demand from citizens and cultural experts for the immediate preservation of both properties. Many believe the houses should be restored and converted into cultural and informational centers dedicated to the lives and achievements of the two cinema legends.
