MULTAN, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th May, 2026) In a major step towards ensuring exemplary cleanliness in the city, the district administration launched a campaign to involve the trader community in maintaining sanitation standards across markets of Multan.
Deputy Commissioner Muhammad Nouman Siddique visited Mumtazabad market along with officials of the Waste Management Company, where dustbins were distributed among shopkeepers for proper waste disposal practices. Chief Executive Officer Waste Management Company, Zulfiqar Ahmed, handed over dustbins to traders.
A cleanliness awareness rally was also organized led by Deputy Commissioner. The rally witnessed enthusiastic participation from traders, sanitary workers, civil society representatives and officials of the waste management company.
Speaking on the occasion, DC Muhammad Nouman Siddique, said that the Punjab government was providing free dustbins to traders in the initial phase of the campaign.
He stated that all trader associations would be made bound for ensuring the availability of dustbins for garbage collection in markets.
He further said that every shopkeeper would be required to place a dustbin outside their shop, while Suthra Punjab agency would ensure waste collection.
CEO Waste Management Company Zulfiqar Ahmed emphasized that achieving an ideal sanitation system was impossible without the cooperation of traders and civil society. He appreciated the positive response of the business community and said traders had assured the administration about installation of additional dustbins in markets at their own expense.
Trader representatives also expressed commitment to participate in the cleanliness campaign and pledged to install dustbins across all markets.
