District administration imposes Section 144 to prevent forest fires

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Jun, 2026) The district administration of Peshawar has imposed Section 144 across vulnerable forest areas to prevent forest fires during the ongoing dry season, according to an official notification issued by Deputy Commissioner Peshawa Sana Ullah Khan.

The order was issued following a report by the Divisional Forest Officer, Khyber Forest Division, highlighting an increased risk of forest and wildfires due to dry vegetation, high temperatures and human activities.

Under the order, burning of bushes, grass, agricultural residue, picnic fires and any other activities that may trigger forest fires have been banned, particularly in the Hassan Khel Forest Range and other forested areas of the district.

The notification stated that forest fires could cause extensive damage to forests, wildlife habitats, biodiversity, watersheds and public property, while also posing a serious threat to nearby communities and the environment.

The order has come into force with immediate effect and will remain in force until modified or withdrawn by the competent authority. Violators will face legal action under Section 188 of the Pakistan Penal Code (PPC), the notification added.
