PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 11th Apr, 2026) Commissioner Peshawar Division, Riaz Khan Mehsud, on Saturday announced to introduce handcarts of same size and standard design in busy trading area of Firdous Bazar with an aim to address problems arisen out due to encroachment and congestion.
The decision was made during his recent visit to the city along with Deputy Commissioner Peshawar, Captain (R) Sanaullah. The commissioner stated that the initiative is to ensure protection of vendors’ livelihoods and improving traffic flow in congested areas.
Commissioner emphasized that standardized handcarts would help bring discipline in marketplaces and eliminate obstructions caused by randomly placed carts on roads and footpaths.
As part of the initiative, the model would initially be implemented in Firdous Bazaar as a pilot project and later expanded to other markets across the city, he said.
The commissioner also directed authorities to ensure consultation with vendors so that their concerns are addressed and the plan is implemented effectively.
