KARACHI, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 10th Apr, 2026) Voice of Sindh marked World Memon Day, observed on April 10, by showcasing the heritage and contributions of the Memon community through a documentary produced by noted television producer Dr Umair Haroon.
The documentary traces the historical migration of the Memon community and highlights its role in the country's economic and social development.
Dr. Umair Haroon, who belongs to the Halari Memon community, has been actively engaged in media and cultural initiatives aimed at promoting heritage and identity.
He is also associated with the International academy of Television Arts and Sciences, becoming the only Pakistani member linked with the body behind the International Emmy Awards, reflecting his international standing in the field.
The film presents a historical narrative of the community’s emergence as a key force in trade, philanthropy and entrepreneurship, while also acknowledging the contributions of prominent figures including Sir Adamjee Dawood, Abdullah Haroon, Arif Habib, Salman Iqbal and others.
Hosted by Najia Mir and written by Ahsan Lakhani, with consultation from Engr. Humair Memon and Ali Godil, the documentary combined archival material with expert insights to present the resilience and unity of the community across generations.
Speaking on the occasion, Dr. Umair Haroon said World Memon Day served as a reminder of the community’s inspiring journey and its commitment to excellence and welfare. He observed that such initiatives were vital for educating future generations about their heritage and achievements.
The event and release of the documentary were widely appreciated, underscoring the importance of recognising the contributions of diverse communities to Pakistan’s social and economic fabric.
