ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 7th May, 2026) Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister (DPM/FM), Ishaq Dar on Thursday chaired a meeting to review Pakistan’s preparations for assuming the Chairmanship of the Council of Heads of State (CHS) of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization (SCO) for the 2026–27 term.
The meeting focused on ongoing preparatory work for the SCO CHS Summit scheduled to be hosted by Pakistan in 2027. The deputy prime minister directed all relevant ministries and departments to ensure comprehensive planning and close coordination to facilitate the event, a DPM's Office news release said.
He underscored that Pakistan attaches importance to the SCO framework and its upcoming chairmanship, noting that it reflects the country’s commitment to regional cooperation, connectivity, and multilateral engagement.
Dar also emphasized the need for timely execution of tasks, effective inter-agency coordination, and maintaining appropriate standards in logistical and substantive preparations.
The meeting was attended by Special Assistant to the Prime Minister Tariq Bajwa, SAPM on Foreign Affairs Tariq Fatemi, Foreign Secretary Amna Baloch, senior officials from the interior ministry, the Capital Development Authority, Islamabad Police, and other relevant departments.
