Original voice cast returns alongside new characters in Shrek family storyline.

DreamWorks Animation has officially unveiled the first teaser trailer for Shrek 5, marking a highly anticipated cinematic revival of its legendary franchise after more than 15 years.

The film is slated for a grand theatrical release in Summer 2027, instantly reigniting global excitement around the beloved ogre universe.

The teaser delivers a nostalgic yet electrifying glimpse into the next chapter, reuniting the iconic voice cast Mike Myers, Eddie Murphy, and Cameron Diaz as Shrek, Donkey, and Fiona.

Adding a fresh generational twist, Zendaya joins the ensemble as Felicia, the spirited daughter of Shrek and Fiona, alongside Marcello Hernández and Skyler Gisondo as the teenage siblings Fergus and Farkle.

Helmed by franchise veterans Conrad Vernon and Walt Dohrn, with Brad Ableson as co-director, the film continues DreamWorks’ legacy of blending whimsical fantasy with sharp-witted satire.

Production is spearheaded by Gina Shay and Illumination chief Chris Meledandri, ensuring a polished continuation of the franchise’s signature style.

The teaser reportedly opens with a nostalgic callback to the original 2001 Shrek, before spiraling into a chaotic new adventure as Donkey disrupts the narration, dragging the characters back into the unpredictable realm of Far, Far Away.

The narrative hints at a dramatic transformation in Shrek’s world, as his once-peaceful swamp life is disrupted by the arrival of teenage triplets and escalating family chaos.

Now grown into rebellious teenagers, Felicia, Fergus, and Farkle inject a fresh dynamic into the storyline, triggering comedic turmoil and unexpected consequences including glimpses of the family entangled in legal mishaps and briefly confined to a jail cell, adding a surreal comedic twist to the plot.

Expanding the universe beyond its familiar roots, the story introduces a dazzling new metropolitan landscape known as “Further Further Away,” a sprawling, modernized kingdom that challenges the characters with unfamiliar environments, eccentric personalities, and heightened stakes.

True to its legacy, Shrek 5 preserves its razor-sharp humor and irreverent tone, weaving in nostalgic callbacks and cultural satire. Fan-favourite characters like Gingy the Gingerbread Man make their return, while Donkey once again delivers his signature comedic brilliance.

The teaser also hints at high-octane chases, absurd comedic scenarios, and playful mockery of contemporary fairy-tale tropes.

A standout moment introduces a frosty new antagonist a snowman-inspired character delivering tongue-in-cheek satire aimed at modern animated classics reinforcing the franchise’s fearless comedic edge.

With its fusion of nostalgia, reinvention, and vibrant storytelling, Shrek 5 is poised to emerge as one of the most monumental animated releases of 2027, promising a whimsical yet wildly unpredictable return to the swamp-filled legacy fans adore.
