The Sindh Government’s move to revive drive-in cinemas marks a shift toward safe, family-centric tourism. By blending nostalgia with modern infrastructure, officials aim to boost the local film industry and provide affordable outdoor entertainment despite ongoing provincial austerity measures and budget controls.
The Big Screen Returns to Karachi
The Sindh Culture, Tourism, and Antiquities Department officially confirmed the revival of the drive-in cinema Karachi experience this week. Provincial Minister Syed Zulfiqar Ali Shah finalized the strategy during a high-level briefing in Karachi. This initiative targets a gap in the city’s entertainment landscape by offering a secure, open-air environment for families.
Drive-in Cinema Karachi Locations
The government is prioritizing the Clifton coastline for the first phase. Specifically, the area near Beach View Park is the primary candidate for the new drive-in cinema Karachi. This site mirrors the historic Sunset Cinema model. The programming schedule focuses on diversity. Audiences can expect animated features for children and classical literary adaptations. Furthermore, the Content and Production Oversight Board will curate films that promote social harmony and democratic values.
Logistics and Affordability
Infrastructure plans accommodate approximately 150 vehicles per session. To ensure maximum public reach, the Sindh government plans to operate on a “no-profit, no-loss” basis. Shows will run during weekend slots, specifically Friday through Sunday. While the project aligns with the Chief Minister’s current austerity drive, full-scale operations will launch immediately following the conclusion of the current fiscal transition. This move complements other 2026 tourism projects, including the Karachi-to-Sukkur train safari and new water sports at Keenjhar Lake.
