LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st May, 2026) Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique Thursday said that transparency had been ensured in the financial affairs of medical institutions and hospitals through e-tendering. He added that the Punjab government had launched new projects worth billions of rupees in the health sector for the people of South Punjab.
He was chairing the 19th Syndicate meeting of Nishtar Medical University held at the Department of Specialized Healthcare and Medical education on Thursday.
During the meeting, University Registrar Prof. Farid Khan presented the agenda items. The syndicate approved the minutes of the 18th meeting along with its implementation report.
The meeting approved several key financial and administrative matters, including a three-year annual maintenance contract for the MRI machine at Nishtar Hospital Multan. Approval was also granted for a one-year service and software support contract for Nishtar Medical University.
The syndicate further approved annual tenders for the purchase of medicines and surgical disposables for Nishtar Medical University and Pak Italian Burn Center Multan for the financial year 2026-27.
Approval was also given for annual operational and maintenance contracts of HVAC systems at Tertiary Care Hospital Nishtar Multan and Nishtar Medical University for the financial years 2025-26 and 2026-27 respectively.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>The meeting approved various academic reforms, including MD/MS Level IV programs, system-based curriculum for MPhil programs, amendment to Semester Examination Regulations 2026, new MCPS programs, and adoption of semester system along with HEC curriculum for BS Allied Health Sciences programs.
Speaking on the occasion, Khawaja Salman Rafique said that e-tendering had ensured transparency in financial matters of hospitals and medical institutions. He said the provincial government was investing billions of rupees in health projects for South Punjab and promoting quality research in medical institutions.
He further directed that the revamping project of Nishtar Hospital Multan be completed on a priority basis.
The meeting was attended by Additional Secretary Medical Education Dr. Sidra Saleem, Director Budget and Accounts Hammad Al-Rabb, MPA Malik Wasif Mazhar, Vice Chancellor Nishtar Medical University Prof. Mehnaz Khakwani, Vice Chancellor King Edward Medical University Prof. Mahmood Ayaz, Dr. Fazal Elahi Bilal, Shahid Imtiaz from the Law Department, and officers from the Higher Education Department and other departments, while several members joined via video link.
