Eco-friendly transport project ART to become operational before June

LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 18th Apr, 2026) The Punjab government has decided to make another major project, Automated Rail Transit (ART) system operational to provide modern and eco-friendly travel facilities to citizens.

After the approval of the Punjab chief minister, this mega project will be completed at a cost of about Rs 6 billion, while the target has been set to make it operational before June.

According to officials, the ART system will start from CBD Kalma Chowk and go to Istanbul Chowk, while its route will extend from Main Boulevard Gulberg to Jail Road Canal.

The train running under the project will consist of three coaches, which will have a capacity to carry 270 passengers at a time.

This train will reach different stops at intervals of 15 to 20 minutes and about 18,000 passengers will benefit from this facility daily.

China Railway Rolling Stock Corporation (CRRC) will provide trains for the ART system, while a local transport company will operate the project.

Officials say that this project will not only provide modern, fast and comfortable travel to the citizens but will also play an important role in reducing environmental pollution.
