Religious scholars and prayer leaders highlighted the philosophy of sacrifice in Eid sermons and urged the Muslim Ummah to promote unity, brotherhood, patience and compassion in the prevailing circumstances.
Immediately after Eid prayers, citizens performed the Sunnah of Hazrat Ibrahim (AS) by sacrificing goats, sheep, bulls, cows, buffaloes and camels.
The ritual of sacrifice will continue for three days in accordance with Islamic traditions.
The district administration and police had made elaborate security arrangements for Eid congregations in both urban and rural areas. Police personnel remained deployed at mosques,Eidgahs and other sensitive points to maintain law and order while no untoward incident was reported from any part of the district till the filing of this report.
Citizens distributed sacrificial meat among relatives, neighbors and underprivileged people in the true spirit of Eid-ul-Azha, while hides of sacrificial animals were collected by seminaries, welfare organizations and charitable institutions.
Philanthropists and welfare groups also arranged special meals and distributed cooked meat among inmates of jails, orphanages,Dar-ul-Amaan centers, hospitals,SOS villages and other deserving people.

Sanitation workers, machinery and dumpers remained active across the city to ensure prompt collection and disposal of sacrificial waste at designated dumping sites where special trenches had already been prepared.
Despite the arrangements, overloaded vehicles carrying sacrificial waste were seen scattering entrails on roads in certain areas, causing foul smell and inconvenience for commuters.
Bakeries and confectionery shops witnessed a heavy rush throughout the day as citizens purchased sweets, bakery items and other food products to celebrate Eid festivities with family members and guests.
Some rickshaw drivers and vendors were also reportedly charging inflated fares and prices on the occasion, causing inconvenience to citizens.
However,inter-city bus terminals and transport stands wore a relatively deserted look on the first day of Eid-ul-Azha as most people preferred to celebrate the festival with their families at home.
