Eid ul Fitr celebrated with religious zeal, devotion nationwide

ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Mar, 2026) Eid ul-Fitr was celebrated with religious zeal and devotion across Pakistan, in line with the nationwide observance of the sacred festival.

The day began with special prayers in mosques, where worshippers prayed for stability, integrity, unity and solidarity of the Muslim Ummah, as well as progress and prosperity of the country.

Eid-ul-Fitr marks the end of Ramazan, a month of fasting, devotion and spiritual reflection. The celebration begins with the sighting of the Shawwal moon, followed by special prayers to express gratitude to Allah for granting the strength to complete the fasting month.

Across the country, Eid prayers were held at different times. In the twin cities, congregations were organised between 7:00 am and 9:00 am.

As families gathered to celebrate the joyous occasion, citizens ensured timely arrival at mosques and Eidgahs to participate in prayers and festivities, reflecting discipline and enthusiasm on the day.

Across the country, in a show of unity, political leaders also participated in Eid prayers and joined the public in celebrating the auspicious occasion.

As the celebrations continued, families visited relatives and friends, exchanged Eid greetings and indulged in traditional sweets. Children, full of excitement, received crisp banknotes from elders and enjoyed their new clothes and shoes, adding to the festive atmosphere.

In the twin cities of Islamabad and Rawalpindi, special Eid congregations were held in all major areas. The faithful gathered at mosques, Eidgahs and open spaces to offer prayers, where Ulema highlighted the significance of the holy festival.

Islamabad Capital Territory Police ensured foolproof security arrangements for Eid-ul-Fitr prayers across the Federal capital, deploying over 7,000 officers and personnel. The largest Eid congregation in Islamabad was held at Faisal Masjid, where comprehensive security arrangements were put in place. All security measures were monitored through Safe City cameras and modern technology to ensure effective surveillance and response. Inspector General of Police Islamabad, Syed Ali Nasir Rizvi, personally oversaw the security arrangements across the city.

Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir offered Eid prayers in Kurram, celebrating Eid-ul-Fitr with officers and soldiers.

President Asif Ali Zardari offered Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at Zardari House, Nawabshah and prayed for the country’s security and development.

He later exchanged Eid greetings with the people.

Senate Chairman Yousaf Raza Gillani offered Eid prayers in Multan.

In Lahore, large Eid prayer congregations were held at mosques, Eidgahs and open grounds, including the historic Badshahi Mosque.

Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif offered Eid-ul-Fitr prayers in Model Town, Lahore. He was accompanied by Hamza Shehbaz, Suleman Shehbaz and Information Minister Attaullah Tarar.

Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan offered Eid-ul-Fitr prayers in his native village Dharnal, tehsil Fateh Jang, district Attock, on the occasion of Eid.

Former Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif and Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz celebrated Eid at Jati Umra.

In Peshawar, the main Eid prayer congregation was held at Eidgah. Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Muhammad Suhail Afridi, offered the Eid ul-Fitr prayer in his native district of Khyber district. Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi offered Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at the Governor House, where special prayers were made for the country’s security, lasting peace in the province and national prosperity.

In Quetta, over 100 Eid congregations were held at parks, mosques, Imambargahs and Eidgahs across the city, with the main gathering at Eidgah Toghi Road. Governor Balochistan Jaffar Khan Mandokhail offered Eid prayers in Quetta.

Balochistan Chief Minister Mir Sarfraz Bugti offered Eid-ul-Fitr prayers at Mir Ghulam Qadir sports Complex, Qadirabad area of Dera Bugti, where a large number of people also offered Eid prayers with him.

In Muzaffarabad, the main Eid congregation was held at Central Eidgah where Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Faisal Mumtaz Rathore offered prayers and later exchanged greetings with the people. AJK Acting President Ch Latif Akbar also offered Eid prayers in the city.

Eid-ul-Fitr is also celebrated in Gilgit Baltistan on Saturday with religious zeal and fervour.

Chairman Pakistan Peoples Party, Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah offered Eid prayers in Garhi Khuda Bakhsh, Larkana. He also visited the shrine of the martyrs of democracy and prayed for the country’s stability and the prosperity of its people.
