Excise Dept holds consultative meetings, engagements with traders

PESHAWAR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th May, 2026) The Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control Department is continuing a series of effective outreach and reform-oriented initiatives across the province to enhance transparency in tax system, improve public facilitation and increase revenue generation.

The initiative has been initiated under the instructions of Secretary Excise, Taxation and Narcotics Control, Khalid Ilyas.The Secretary Excise has issued clear directions to all Excise and Taxation Officers (ETOs) to spend at least one hour daily in the field, engage directly with traders and members of the business community, and take practical measures for the prompt resolution of issues and complaints related to taxation matters.

In this regard, a number of consultative meetings, field visits, and stakeholder engagement activities were organized in Peshawar and Mardan by Excise and Taxation officers to make the tax system more transparent, efficient, and public-friendly.

In Peshawar, Excise and Taxation Officer (ETO-II) Property Tax, Tausif Khan, conducted detailed visits to various markets and commercial centres in connection with property tax matters. During the visit, he met with office-bearers of traders’ associations and shopkeepers who shared their concerns, suggestions, and reservations regarding the property tax system.

ETO Tausif Khan assured the business community that the provincial government is taking serious measures to address the genuine concerns of traders and is committed to introducing further facilitation in the property tax system.

He also emphasized the importance of timely tax payments, stating that revenues generated through taxes are utilized for public welfare, development projects, and the improvement of civic services.

Meanwhile, another important meeting was held in Peshawar between Dr. Zahid Iqbal Khan, Excise and Taxation Officer (ETO-III), and representatives of the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce.

The meeting was attended by Junaid Khan, President Sarhad Chamber of Commerce, Ayub Zakori, President Industrialiat Association, along with representatives of various traders’ organizations.

Detailed discussions were held on the issues, concerns, and proposals raised by different traders’ associations.

Similarly, in Mardan, Excise and Taxation Officer Muhammad Khalid Khan held an important meeting with members of the Mardan Chamber of Commerce and the trader community. The meeting focused on discussing issues faced by traders and exploring possible solutions and facilitation measures.

During the meeting, a “Tax Facilitation and Complaint Desk” was formally inaugurated at the Mardan Chamber of Commerce to provide immediate guidance and support to traders. Businessmen will now be able to submit written complaints and applications at the desk to ensure timely resolution of their issues.
