Face-lifting of Kashmiri expatriates city of Mirpur-AJK begins under integrated development plan: Commissioner

MIRPUR (AJK) , (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point news - 29th Mar, 2026) The face-lifting of Mirpur, a city in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) known for its large Kashmiri expatriate population, has begun under an integrated development plan.

Divisional Commissioner Raja Tahir Mumtaz Khan emphasized that authorities are taking practical steps to provide basic amenities to the population of Mirpur division.

The Commissioner warned that negligence by nation-building institutions in solving rural and urban problems will not be tolerated.

He highlighted the demolition of ordinary huts (khokhas) from picturesque viewpoints and a clean-up operation underway at other places, including city footpaths. A grand cultural event is being planned to showcase the centuries-old cultural heritage of Jammu and Kashmir, providing entertainment facilities to the public and diaspora.

The Municipal Corporation Mirpur has received instructions to renovate and beautify viewpoints, children's parks, and public parks.

Prime Minister Azad Kashmir Faisal Mumtaz Rathore has directed strict steps to modernize Mirpur city and resolve overseas Kashmiris' problems.

The government is prioritizing socio-economic development projects, focusing on the local population's wishes and aspirations. The Commissioner also mentioned efforts to address parking issues, with construction of parking plazas underway, and notices issued to vacate basements of shopping centers for car parking.

Public complaints regarding revenue department patwaris will be addressed, and strict action taken against concerned officials.Media representatives appreciated the Commissioner's initiatives, and he thanked them for their constructive role in highlighting public problems.
