LAYYAH, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Jul, 2026) Police arrested a fake faith healer after a video showing him allegedly assaulting a woman under the guise of exorcising evil spirits went viral on social media, police sources said on Thursday.

According to police sources, the incident occurred in Kot Sultan where the health of the wife of a local resident, Rab Nawaz, deteriorated about a week after childbirth. Instead of seeking medical treatment, the family called a self-styled faith healer, Manzoor, who claimed that the woman was possessed by evil spirits.

The suspect allegedly subjected the woman to physical violence in an attempt to drive out the "spirits", causing her condition to worsen.

Taking serious notice of the viral video, District Police Officer Layyah, Hassan Javed Bhatti, directed SHO Kot Sultan Zahid Laghari to ensure the immediate arrest of the accused.

Acting promptly, a police team led by the SHO apprehended the suspect, registered a case against him and launched further investigation.

DPO Hassan Javed Bhatti said Layyah Police remained fully committed to protecting women in line with the vision of the Punjab Chief Minister. He said strict legal action would be taken against the accused and assured that the victim would be provided complete justice in accordance with the law.
