FAISALABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Apr, 2026) Director Agriculture (Extension) Chaudhry Khalid Mahmood has advised the farmers to complete wheat harvesting in a timely manner and strictly avoid from burning crop residues as this practice is not only illegal but also harmful to soil fertility.

In a statement here on Tuesday, he advised the growers to adopt modern agricultural practices for residue management, suggesting the use of machinery such as wheat straw choppers instead of burning leftover crop material. He said that after harvesting, wheat should be properly dried and stored in clean and secure places to protect it from moisture, pests and fungal attacks.

He recommended the use of hermetic bags or sealed storage facilities, where possible, to ensure better preservation of the produce.

He also advised the farmers to use appropriate pesticides in accordance with the guidelines of Agriculture Department to safeguard stored wheat from insect infestation, adding that cleanliness of storage areas must be maintained at all times.

By adopting these precautionary measures, farmers could not only protect their crops but also achieve better yield and higher financial returns, he added.
