LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st Jun, 2026) Father's Day was celebrated on Sunday in Pakistan and around the globe to pay homage to fathers, a day set aside for honoring one's father, as well as fatherhood, paternal bonds, and the influence of fathers in society.

Father's Day complements similar celebrations honoring family members, such as Mother's Day and, in some countries, Siblings Day, and Grandparents' Day.

The day is observed worldwide on the third Sunday of June every year. As the day arrives, social media is flooded with photos of parents and children, brands roll out special offers, and many of us mark the occasion by gifting our fathers a Punjabi or a wristwatch.

According to to a new study, released by United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) in its message on Father's day said that a majority of children aged between three- and four-years-old in 74 countries, or about 40 million, have fathers who do not play or engage in early learning activities with them.

In Pakistan, this day is a widely observed occasion honoring fatherhood and paternal bonds. While it is not an official public holiday, families across cities like Lahore, Karachi, and Islamabad.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Maryam Nawaz Sharif on Sunday has paid rich tribute to fathers for their unconditional love, protection and dedication towards their children.

In her special message on Father’s Day, the CM said that a father is a source of strength, guidance and inspiration who plays a vital role in shaping the character and future of the next generation.

Saluting every father who fulfils the rights of his children and ensures their well-being, she particularly appreciated fathers who instill confidence, courage and a sense of self-worth in their children, especially daughters, enabling them to pursue their dreams and face life’s challenges with determination.
