Federal government announced two-day public holidays across the country.

Federal government announced two-day public holidays across the country on June 25 and 26 (Thursday and Friday) to observe the 9th and 10th of Muharram-ul-Haram, 1448 A.H. (Ashura).

In a notification, the Cabinet Secretariat said Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif had declared Muharram 9 and 10, falling on June 25 and 26, as public holidays.

The Cabinet Division has forwarded copies of the notification to all ministries, divisions, provincial governments, and relevant administrative departments for wide implementation and publicity.

Notably, Sindh government has also announced public holidays on June 25 (Thursday) and 26 (Friday) on account of Ashura across the province.

A notification was shared on the social media platform X by the Sindh Information Department. The notification, issued by the Sindh Chief Secretary, stated that the Government of Sindh has declared June 25 and 26, 2026 as public holidays across the province on the occasion of Ashura (Muharram 9 and 10, 1448 A.H).

It further said that all offices, autonomous bodies, semi-autonomous bodies, corporations, and local councils under the Sindh government will remain closed, except for essential services.

Muharram is a month of mourning. It marks the Battle of Karbala in 680 AD, where Imam Husain (RA), the grandson of Prophet Muhammad (Peace Be Upon Him), along with other family members and companions, was martyred, while some were also subjected to hardship and humiliation.
