ANKARA: Chief of Defence Forces (CDF) and Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Syed Asim Munir, arrived in Turkiye on Monday for a two-day official visit aimed at strengthening bilateral military cooperation and discussing regional security issues.

According to state-run Radio Pakistan,  Field Marshal Munir was accorded a warm welcome upon arrival and is scheduled to hold meetings with Turkiye’s senior military and political leadership to discuss matters of mutual interest.

The visit follows last month’s trip to Pakistan by Metin Tokel, who met Field Marshal Munir at General Headquarters in Rawalpindi.

The two sides discussed regional security developments, professional military cooperation and ways to further deepen defence ties, according to the Inter-Services Public Relations.

During his visit to Pakistan, General Tokel also met Chief of Naval Staff Admiral Naveed Ashraf at Naval Headquarters and Chief of Air Staff Air Chief Marshal Zaheer Ahmed Baber Sidhu at Air Headquarters. Discussions focused on maritime security, bilateral military cooperation and other professional matters.

Pakistan and Turkiye maintain close strategic, political and defence relations, with both countries regularly expanding cooperation through high-level exchanges and joint initiatives.

Earlier this month, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif met Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan in Istanbul, where the two leaders reaffirmed their longstanding partnership and pledged to increase bilateral trade to $5 billion while enhancing cooperation across multiple sectors.
