Legislation, known as HB 1471, prohibits enforcement of any foreign or religious legal frameworks, including Sharia law, where such systems conflict with constitutional rights
FLORIDA: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-April 7th, 2026) Governor Ron DeSantis has signed a new law aimed at restricting the application of foreign and religious legal systems within the state, while also strengthening measures against designated extremist groups.
The legislation, known as HB 1471, prohibits the enforcement of any foreign or religious legal frameworks, including Sharia law, where such systems conflict with constitutional rights. It is intended to ensure that state law remains fully aligned with the U.S. Constitution and is uniformly applied across all institutions.
The law also introduces provisions designed to enhance public safety by addressing activities linked to groups identified as extremist or associated with terrorism.
Authorities say the move is part of broader efforts to protect communities and state institutions from potential security threats.
Governor DeSantis said the objective of the legislation is to uphold the rule of law and reinforce the primacy of constitutional governance. He added that state institutions must be safeguarded from individuals or groups that could undermine public safety or disrupt the education system.
The governor further emphasized that maintaining a consistent legal framework is essential for preserving order, stability, and institutional integrity across the state.
