FMU syndicate okays key health, education measures

FAISALABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th Apr, 2026) Punjab Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique on Tuesday stressed the need to further improve the standards of medical education and healthcare services while presiding over the 16th Syndicate meeting of Faisalabad Medical University (FMU).

FMU Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Zafar Ali Chaudhry, Additional Secretary Sidra Saleem, Director Budget and Accounts Hammad-ur-Rabb, MPA Ilyas Chinioti, Medical Superintendent Dr Faheem Ashraf and philanthropists were present in the meeting while officials from Higher Education Commission (HeC) including Prof Muhammad Ashraf joined it via video link.

During meeting, the FMU syndicate approved the minutes of its 15th meeting and deliberated on multiple agenda items pertaining to institutional and hospital affairs.

The Vice Chancellor briefed the participants about academic matters while the medical superintendent presented updates regarding hospital administration.

The forum approved contracts for security and janitorial services for Allied Hospital-I and Allied Hospital-II (DHQ Hospital) Faisalabad, as well as janitorial services for Faisalabad Teaching Hospital.

The meeting also sanctioned procurement of laboratory kits and liquid oxygen for FMU, extension in contracts of university employees and an increase in postgraduate seats in Dermatology and Medical Radiological Diagnostics departments.

Addressing the meeting, Provincial Health Minister Khawaja Salman Rafique said that the government was working to introduce a uniform policy to resolve issues faced by all medical teaching institutions across Punjab. He said that there would be no compromise on the supply of medicines in public hospitals and directed that syndicate meetings of medical institutions should be held regularly to address administrative challenges.

He said that public hospitals, built with taxpayers’ money, must be transformed into state-of-the-art treatment facilities and emphasized the promotion of quality research in all medical institutions of the province.
