Forthcoming general elections in Azad Jammu and Kashmir are to be held on schedule: AJK PM

MIRPUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 13th Apr, 2026) Azad Jammu Kashmir Prime Minister Faisal Mumtaz Rathore has said that forthcoming general elections in Azad Jammu Kashmir would be held on schedule in a free, fair, and transparent manner. He added that requisite arrangements are afoot to ensure a transparent and fair process.

Speaking at the anniversary ceremony of an urdu daily in the Federal metropolis on Monday, he said that responsible journalism promotes societal development while yellow journalism leads to its decline.

The Prime Minister continued that the media and the Information Department share a close working relationship, each operating within its own sphere.

Terming journalism as an important pillar of the state, PM Rathore said, "A vigilant and responsible media contributes significantly to public awareness, development, and the stability of the state." ?Commending the role of local media, the Prime Minister said that state-based media outlets not only convey the government’s stance effectively but also promote the Kashmir freedom movement at the international level.

?He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to resolving issues faced by journalists and ensuring their welfare so they can perform their duties independently and impartially.

Referring to key initiatives his government has undertaken, PM Rathore said the government took office at a critical juncture, with its constitutional term nearing completion. Despite limited time, he said, several important and far-reaching decisions were made that helped restore public trust and confidence in state institutions.

He added that while some projects could not be completed, they have been laid on solid foundations with clear plans for future implementation.

Appreciating the services of the Urdu Daily, he hoped that the newspaper, under the patronage of a seasoned and experienced editorial team, would continue promoting public awareness and national interests through responsible journalism.
