SUKKUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Apr, 2026) The Sindh Government’s Transport and Mass Transit Department organized a ceremony at a local hall in Sukkur on Friday to distribute free scooties among women.

PPP leaders, dignitaries, and a large number of women recipients along with their parents were also present.

Addressing the ceremony, Provincial Minister Sharjeel Inam Memon said it was an important day and that the Pakistan Peoples Party and the Sindh government, under the leadership of President Asif Ali Zardari, Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari and Faryal Talpur were serving the people.

Look at Pakistan’s history, if any political party has done the most significant work for women, it was initiated by the Pakistan Peoples Party, he said. He added that Quaid-e-Awam Shaheed Zulfikar Ali Bhutto worked for women’s empowerment, and Shaheed Benazir Bhutto, the first woman prime minister of the Muslim world, established women police stations, set up the First Women Bank, and launched the Lady Health Workers program.

Memon said President Asif Ali Zardari launched the historic Benazir Income Support Program, which was now praised by the IMF and World Bank. He said that in a backward society where women’s CNICs were not even made, the program led people to register their sisters, daughters, and mothers.

He said Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari initiated the world’s largest housing project under which the Sindh government was providing free houses to 2.1 million families, with ownership rights given to women.

Search the meaning of women empowerment online and the name of the Pakistan Peoples Party will come up. Strengthening our women is the government’s job, and the government is doing it,” he said.

Memon said Sindh was the first province to introduce EV buses, and the Pink Bus Service — with female drivers and conductors did not exist even in the US, UK, Europe, or Gulf countries. He said Sindh was providing free EV scooties to women along with helmets, licenses, and training, all free of cost.

Earlier, only 150 women in Sindh had motorcycle licenses, but now 20,000 had applied, he said, adding that no other provincial government in Pakistan was providing free Pink EV scooters. “There is no donor agency in this project. No recommendation is needed. If you have a driving license and proof of employment, you will get a Pink Scooter free,” he said.

He said registration of Pink Scooties had also been made free and urged recipients to ride safely and not just keep them as showpieces. He added that empowering women was the vision of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari, President Asif Ali Zardari, and First Lady Bibi Aseefa Bhutto Zardari.

MNA Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah said, “We want Pakistan to progress, and the country will progress when the majority population contributes to development.” He urged women not to give the scooties to their brothers or sons, thanked Sharjeel Memon for providing scooties to Sukkur women, and asked the Mayor and District Council to set up counters in their offices.

Provincial Minister Syed Nasir Hussain Shah said the day was made possible under Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s vision and the efforts of Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah, Sharjeel Inam Memon, and other leaders. He said Speaker Syed Awais Qadir Shah had earlier launched the Peoples Bus Service, and Bilawal’s vision was for development, welfare, and women’s empowerment.

Other speakers, including Sindh Assembly Speaker Syed Awais Qadir Shah, Minister Mukesh Kumar Chawla, Mayor Arslan Islam Shaikh, District Council Chairman Syed Kumail Hyder Shah, MNA Dr. Shazia Soomro, MNA Nauman Islam Shaikh, MPA Syed Farrukh Shah, former MPA Syed Javed Ali Shah, and Deputy Mayor Dr. Arshad Mughal, said the distribution of scooties would be a key step in the progress of women in the region.

They said the Sindh government was providing affordable travel facilities amid inflation and that free scooties would benefit women and students. They termed it part of Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari’s vision for women’s development, adding that all applicants would be given free scooties on merit after completing necessary procedures.

The speakers said Sindh was the first province to introduce electric buses in public transport and that the government believed in practical measures for women’s empowerment. “This effort reflects the vision that women should not only be given opportunities but also the resources to live an independent and dignified life,” they said, adding that the scheme would provide safe, respectable, and easy mobility to women.

They said the vision was a continuation of Shaheed Mohtarma Benazir Bhutto’s struggle for women’s rights, education, and independence. They lauded Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari for advancing his mother’s vision and praised Syed Khursheed Ahmed Shah for establishing the Women University in Sukkur. They also commended Sharjeel Inam Memon for giving new direction to the mass transit program and implementing revolutionary projects like Pink Scooties.

At the end of the ceremony, the guests distributed Pink Scooties and handed over keys to recipients, including Muqaddas Nooren, Bilqees Mehtab, Mahnoor, Maryam Ghulam Sarwar, Bakhtawar Bhatti, and other young students, working women, and self-employed women.

The speakers reiterated that the Sindh government would continue to introduce welfare and development projects to bring positive and lasting change to the lives of all segments of society.
