GILGIT, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 2nd Apr, 2026) An important meeting of the Provincial Steering Committee on Information was held at the Information Directorate under the chairmanship of Information Minister Ghulam Abbas, where participants stressed the need for a coordinated media strategy to counter terrorism and extremism.

Representatives from the Information Department, educational institutions and other relevant organisations attended the meeting.

The minister said that combating terrorism was not possible through security measures alone, emphasising the need for a strong national narrative based on unity, social cohesion, and public awareness.

The meeting decided to introduce practical measures in educational institutions to promote patriotism and national harmony.

It also approved the formation of a special sub-committee to monitor social and electronic media and counter anti-state propaganda.

It was further decided that the health department, police, and law and prosecution authorities would be included in the next meeting to develop a comprehensive counterterrorism strategy.

Participants also agreed to establish a WhatsApp group to ensure effective coordination among stakeholders.

The meeting highlighted sports and cultural activities as effective tools for promoting peace, unity, and social cohesion, and agreed to enhance such initiatives through public-private partnerships.

At the conclusion, participants reaffirmed their commitment to strengthening national unity and promoting a positive narrative through joint efforts.
