German FM: US-Iran diplomacy underway as Middle East conflict grows

German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul says preparations are being made for direct talks between the two countries

BERLIN: (Urdu point/Pakistan News Point, March 27th, 2026) German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul has confirmed that indirect contacts between the United States and Iran have already taken place.

Wadephul said that the preparations are being made for direct talks between the two countries, with a meeting between their representatives expected soon.

He said that Pakistan could potentially host this diplomatic meeting.

Middle East conflict escalates despite diplomatic efforts

Despite ongoing diplomatic initiatives, violence in the middle East has intensified. Israel carried out heavy airstrikes on Tehran, while residential buildings in Qom and Urmia were also targeted, leaving several structures in ruins.

Iranian media reported that at least 13 people were killed in the Israeli attacks, and the rescue teams continued searching for survivors trapped under debris.

In response, the Iranian Revolutionary Guards targeted US bases and Israeli positions in the region.

On the Lebanese border, Israeli forces faced fierce resistance, with Hezbollah claiming the destruction of 21 Israeli tanks within 24 hours.

Israel confirmed the death of another soldier and deployed additional military equipment toward the Lebanese frontier.
