SUKKUR, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 21st May, 2026) The Paediatric Cardiology Unit at the Pir Abdul Qadir Shah Jeelani Institute of Medical Sciences (PAQSJIMS), popularly known as GIMS Gambat hospital, is emerging as a leading centre for free, advanced cardiac care for children in Sindh and beyond.
Established in 2021 under Dr. Harish Kumar, the unit diagnoses and treats coronary artery diseases through angiography and provides expert interventional care. Non-surgical cases are managed on-site with angiography and angioplasty, while surgical cases are referred to Dr. Iqbal Hussain, a renowned paediatric cardiac surgeon.
Talking to APP on Thursday, Dr. Allah Dino, Senior consultant in the Cardiac Surgery Department and Cardiology Unit at GIMS, said the unit treats up to 700 children annually at no cost. “Patients incur no expenses for treatment, and medicines are also provided free,” he said.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>The unit operates as part of GIMS’s broader Cardiology Department, which offers routine and complex interventional cardiology, CTO angioplasty, coronary bypass, and open heart procedures entirely free of charge. The hospital’s active Cath Lab, CCU, and ICU facilities support both adult and paediatric cardiac care.
Dr. Allah Dino noted that patients come from across Sindh, as well as from Quetta, Loralai, Dera Murad Jamali, Jhat Patt and remote areas of Balochistan. The hospital also receives significant referrals from Punjab, including Lahore, Rahim Yar Khan, Sadiqabad, Multan, and Bahawalpur.
GIMS Gambat remains widely recognized in Sindh for delivering complex surgeries, including transplants and specialized pediatric heart operations free of charge.
