MIRPUR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Apr, 2026) An AJK Power Division spokesperson, while clarifying the current electricity outage situation in AJK, said on Thursday that in view of the recent international energy crisis, there was a severe energy crisis in Pakistan as well as in Azad Jammu Kashmir, due to which load shedding was taking place in the region, including the Mirpur district, it was officially said.

"Most of the electricity generation in Pakistan and Azad Kashmir is through hydropower/furnace oil/LNG," the official spokesman of the Power Division told the APP AJK correspondent here late Thursday.

The spokesman stated that due to crop harvesting in Pakistan, hydropower (electricity generated from water) was currently suspended. "While furnace oil LNG is not being supplied due to the closure of roads in view of the war between Iran and Israel/the United States, which is causing a shortfall in electricity generation. Since the beginning of summer," he said.

He underlined that the demand for electricity has increased immensely in the entire country and there was a shortfall of 4950 megawatts during peak hours, due to which power outages are forcing load shedding.

Electricity consumers are requested to avoid unnecessary use of electricity in view of the current energy crisis as much as possible so that electricity supply can be ensured at all times.

"The AJK Electricity Department is in constant touch with the GEPCO/IESCO authorities in view of the sensitivity of the region so that load shedding can be eliminated/minimized. which will not be possible if load shedding is improved in hydel/thermal generation of electricity. But until the electricity production is completed, consumers should avoid unnecessary use of electricity during peak hours as much as possible, and the Electricity Department apologizes for the difficult situation in view of the current international situation, the spokesman said, adding that the Electricity Department would be grateful for the cooperation of consumers.
