Government focused on excellence, transparency in higher education: DPM Ishaq Dar

ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 1st Jul, 2026) Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar on Wednesday reaffirmed the government's commitment to strengthening Pakistan's higher education system, stating that promoting quality education and imparting knowledge through the highest standards of quality, transparency, and excellence remained a hallmark of the government's vision.

He was chairing a committee meeting to review the existing Guidelines for the Establishment of Universities and Higher Education Institutions in Pakistan.

The committee reviewed the draft 2026 HEC Regulatory Framework for the Establishment and Accreditation of Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) in Pakistan.

The relevant stakeholders provided a detailed briefing to the Committee about this policy.

The committee appreciated the efforts of the Higher Education Commission (HEC), and recommended improvements in certain areas.

The deputy prime minister further directed HEC to incorporate recommendations provided by this committee and submit the revised draft to the Ministry of Federal Education and Professional Training for onward submission to the Federal Cabinet for approval.

The meeting was attended by Ministers for Law, Human Rights, IPC, Education, and Professional Training, SAPM Tariq Bajwa, Federal Secretaries and relevant stakeholders.
