Governor Balochistan lays foundation stone of HEC Regional Center in Quetta

QUETTA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Jun, 2026) Governor Balochistan Jaffar Khan Mandokhail laid the foundation stone of the Higher Education Commission (HEC) Regional Center in Quetta on Friday, terming it a historic milestone in the province’s educational journey.

He said the center is not merely an administrative facility but the realization of a long-cherished dream of an educated Balochistan, strengthening the foundation of quality education through joint efforts of the Federal and provincial governments.

Speaking at the ceremony, Governor Jaffar Mandokhail highlighted that the HEC plays a leading role in guiding nearly 300 public sector universities across Pakistan towards progress and excellence. He stressed that the new regional center will serve as a hub for innovation, research, and academic development, significantly strengthening higher education institutions and university campuses across Balochistan.

The Governor emphasized the need to control costs by shifting the center to a solar energy system, adding a guest house, and ensuring that construction is completed on time without compromising quality. He expressed gratitude to Prime Minister Muhammad Shehbaz Sharif and HEC Chairman Dr. Niaz Ahmad Akhtar for their vision and commitment to advancing education.

Niaz Ahmad Akhtar (Chairman HEC), Dr. Zahoor Bazai (Vice Chancellor, University of Balochistan), Prof. Dr. Rubina Mushtaq (Vice Chancellor, Women University Quetta), Prof. Dr. Gul Hassan (Vice Chancellor, University of Turbat), Dr. Ihsanullah Kakar (Vice Chancellor, University of Loralai), Prof. Dr. Mumtaz Ali Baloch (Vice Chancellor, Mir Chakar Khan Rind University, Sibi), and Pro Vice Chancellor Dr. Alam Tareen, along with several senior faculty members and education experts.

It was announced that the HEC Regional Center Quetta, being constructed at a cost of Rs. 78.61 million, will be completed by the end of this year. Governor Jaffar Mandokhail remarked that the center’s establishment is not just an administrative step but a transformative development, sowing the seeds of quality education and sustainable progress for future generations.

He urged the national electronic and print media to give full coverage to this historic occasion, underscoring its importance for the province and the country.
