QUETTA, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 3rd May, 2026) Governor Balochistan, Jaffar Khan Mandokhail, has reaffirmed that press freedom is both a constitutional right and a democratic necessity.
In his message marking World Press Freedom Day, he likened freedom of expression to oxygen in the modern world, without which democratic systems cannot survive.
Mandokhail emphasized that a healthy, informed, and fair society is impossible without free journalism. He noted that while press freedom has become more accessible in the digital age, it is also more sensitive, as news and images can instantly reach millions through social media. He urged citizens to avoid spreading unverified information and fake news, calling it a moral responsibility of every conscious individual.
Highlighting the role of journalism as the “fourth pillar of the state,” the Governor explained that while parliament makes laws, the judiciary interprets them, and the administration enforces them, the media serves as a vital bridge between government and the people.
Jaffar Mandokhail paid tribute to journalists who sacrificed their lives in the line of duty, describing them as the pride of the nation. He assured that the services and sacrifices of senior journalists will never be forgotten, while also pledging to safeguard the rights and employment of young journalists.
The Governor pointed out that society is entering an era of artificial intelligence and robotic technology, moving beyond the traditional culture of paper and pen. He urged media professionals to embrace digital journalism, adopt modern tools, master new technologies, and familiarize themselves with scientific innovations. By doing so, he said, journalists will be better equipped to serve the interests of the people of Balochistan.
