PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 27th Mar, 2026) Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi was given separate detailed briefings at Governor House on Friday on the performance of the Press Information Department (PID) and the National Book Foundation (NBF), emphasizing the need for modern communication strategies and promotion of reading culture in society.
During a briefing by PID Peshawar, Director General Tahira Syeda and Deputy Director Romana Asad Khan apprised the Governor of departmental responsibilities, including challenges in digital media, strategic communication, media relations, public narrative, outreach, stakeholder engagement, social media management, crisis communication, and internal coordination.
The briefing also highlighted efforts for effective narrative building through promotion of government initiatives, news dissemination, and research-based articles.
Speaking on the occasion, the Governor said that PID carries a significant responsibility in promoting the state narrative and must be aligned with modern communication requirements.
He directed that PID offices in Peshawar and Dera Ismail Khan be equipped with modern facilities and proposals be considered for establishment of an effective media cell.
Meanwhile, in another meeting officials of the National Book Foundation, including Secretary Dr.
Khan Farhan Riffat and Director Headquarters Murad Ali Mohmand, briefed the Governor on the organization’s performance and initiatives.
The Governor was informed that NBF is striving to provide quality books at affordable prices across the country to promote reading habits. Details were shared about publishing projects, book fairs, mobile book shops, and special discount schemes for students and teachers.
It was further stated that free books are being provided to visually impaired individuals and religious seminaries, while 24 outlets of the foundation have been established at various locations, including the National Assembly. Over 11,000 general books have been published so far, and textbooks are also being produced through the platform in Islamabad, Gilgit Baltistan, and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
Appreciating the efforts of the National Book Foundation, the Governor said that books and reading play a vital role in the intellectual development of any society.
He directed that more measures be taken to cultivate reading habits among youth and ensure availability of books in remote areas.
He assured full cooperation for promoting educational and literary activities in the province.
