Governor Kundi visits Al-Shifa Hospital, praises its role in preventing childhood blindness

RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 17th Jun, 2026) Governor Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Faisal Karim Kundi on Wednesday visited Al-Shifa Trust Eye Hospital here, where he lauded the institution's outstanding contribution to providing quality eye care and preventing childhood blindness across Pakistan.

Pakistan Peoples Party Central Information Secretary Nadeem Afzal Chan, Chairman of the Pakistan Red Crescent Society Farzand Wazir and Pakistan Red Crescent Society Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Secretary Abid Marwat accompanied the Governor during the visit.

The delegation was received by Al-Shifa Trust President Maj Gen (Retd) Rehmat Khan, Chief of Medical Services and Dean/Head of the Cornea Department Prof Dr Wajid Ali Khan, Administrator Brig (Retd) Dr Khalid Yazdani Shah and Head of Marketing and Communication Raja Sabih Shamim Satti.

During the visit, the delegation was briefed on the trust's healthcare services, advanced medical facilities and ongoing research and treatment programmes in ophthalmology.

The delegation toured the Outpatient Department (OPD), where patients undergo initial examinations and diagnostic tests before being referred to specialized departments for treatment.

Governor Kundi also visited the Children's Eye Hospital and reviewed its modern facilities for treating pediatric eye diseases.

The Governor was told that Al-Shifa Trust is the only institution in the region offering timely screening and treatment for retinopathy of prematurity, a condition affecting premature babies that can lead to blindness, significantly contributing to the prevention of childhood blindness.

The delegation also visited various departments, including General Ophthalmology, and appreciated the world-class healthcare services being provided to patients.

Speaking on the occasion, Governor Kundi described the services of Al-Shifa Trust as highly commendable, saying the institution was rendering a remarkable humanitarian service by providing quality eye care to deserving patients from across the country, particularly those from remote areas.

He said the trust's efforts in treating eye diseases and preventing childhood blindness were exemplary and deserved appreciation.

During the meeting, both sides also discussed the establishment of Al-Shifa Trust hospitals in Peshawar and Dera Ismail Khan, as well as enhancing cooperation with the Pakistan Red Crescent Society Khyber Pakhtunkhwa to facilitate treatment for patients from the province.
