Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider Khan on Wednesday led “Thalassemia Awareness Week” walk to create awareness about the disease
LAHORE, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 6th May, 2026) Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider Khan on Wednesday led “Thalassemia Awareness Week” walk to create awareness about the disease.
The walk was held under the auspices of Sundas Foundation while Vice Chairperson Punjab Social Protection Authority, Jahan Ara, representatives of Rotary Club Lahore City, students from various universities and people from all.walks of life attended the ceremony.
Founder, President Sundas Foundation Yasin Khan and Director Khalid Abbas Dar welcomed the Governor Punjab on his arrival.
The Governor Punjab met children suffering from thalassemia and hemophilia, inquired about their well-being and distributed gifts among them.
Addressing the audience, Governor Punjab Sardar Saleem Haider Khan said Sundas Foundation has been engaged in selfless service to humanity for the last 29 years.
He said that saving the lives of thousands of children suffering from thalassemia is a great humanitarian work. He said that creating awareness against thalassemia is a joint responsibility of everyone, while timely tests are very important to prevent this disease.
The Governor of Punjab appreciated the services of Founder and President of Sundas Foundation Muhammad Yasin Khan and said that the patronage of the late Munoo Bhai further strengthened this mission and turned it into a strong welfare movement.
He thanked the Sundas Foundation for its cooperation in establishing the Benazir Bhutto Dialysis Center and Blood Bank in Tehsil Fateh Jang, Attock District.
The Governor Punjab further said that it is encouraging that Chief Minister of Punjab, Maryam Nawaz Sharif, is providing financial support to institutions engaged in the treatment of thalassemia and similar diseases.
He said that the Punjab government should increase the financial support of thalassemia patients in the Sundas Foundation. He said that collective awareness must be raised to eradicate thalassemia and providing special attention and facilities to affected children in this regard is the need of the hour.
Talking to the media at the end of the ceremony, Punjab Governor Sardar Saleem Haider Khan said that the Marka-e-Haq is completing one year on May 10. He said that President Asif Ali Zardari, Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir, Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif, all forces and nation deserve congratulations.
The Punjab Governor said, "Allah Almighty gave us victory over India," adding that Pakistan made India to lick the dust in the four-day Bunyan-um-Marsoos operation.
He said that with the power of faith, Pakistan armed forces under the leadership of Field Marshal Syed Asim Munir defeated an enemy five times bigger than them. The Punjab Governor said that after Bunyan-um-Marsoos, India will not have the courage to attack Pakistan again, however, after the defeat, India is conspiring to create instability in the country by funding anti state elements.
He said, "Our security agencies are determined to completely eliminate terrorism."
In response to a question, the Governor said that the provincial government’s initiative to reduce traffic fines is commendable, adding that the approval of the bill to reduce traffic fines will provide relief to the common man.
Vice Chairperson Social Protection Authority Jahan Ara Wattoo also addressed the ceremony.
