RAWALPINDI, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 24th May, 2026) Governor Punjab, SardarSaleem Haider Khan on Sunday saw off 120 underprivileged brides at a collective marriage ceremony held in Fateh Jang, Attock and announced another major programme of 500 marriages after Eid-ul-Azha.
A large number of people from different walks of life, philanthropists, social workers and local residents attended the ceremony.
Addressing the event, the governor said that such welfare initiatives provide hope and support to low-income families.
"No deserving girl should be deprived of marriage due to lack of resources", he said while reaffirming his conrinued support to the needy segments of the society.
He shared with the audience that he did not even have resources for a single bride when he had initially announced 100 marriages, but with faith in Allah and support from philanthropists, 120 girls were married with dignity.
He thanked donors and social figures for contributing millions of rupees to the cause, which helped organize the ceremony and brought happiness to deserving families.
The governor appreciated Chief Organiser Malik Kamran Khaki and his team for making excellent arrangements,
"The target was first set at 35, extended up to 100, but finally 120 marriages were ultimately conducted, credit of which goes to the organizers", he added.
<?php /*?> <?php */?>He announced that immediately after Eid-ul-Azha, a second phase of 500 collective marriages would be launched, for which the team members would bear expenses of 10 marriages each in the next phase.
Sardar Saleem Haider Khan said that if affluent segments of society continued such support, thousands of deserving families could be facilitated.
He highlighted that welfare projects were also being implemented in Attock, including a dialysis and thalassaemia centre established with support of philanthropists, where free treatment was being provided.
He added that a modern mother and child healthcare centre would soon be set up in Jand tehsil to improve medical facilities in rural areas.
The governor said that water filtration plants were being installed in different areas of Attock to ensure clean drinking water, while an electric bus service had also been launched from Hasan Abdal and Fateh Jang to provide affordable and modern transport.
At the end of the ceremony, the brides and their families thanked the governor and organisers, saying such initiatives promote social responsibility and support underprivileged communities.
