Govt deploys teams as mango diseases spread across Sindh

HYDERABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 20th Apr, 2026) The Directorate General Agriculture Extension Sindh has expressed serious concern over the increasing mango diseases and pest attacks due to climate change, warning of potential damage to mango production in various regions.

According to a handout issued on Monday, threats have particularly emerged from diseases such as anthracnose, as well as pests including mango hopper (tela) and thrips, which are affecting orchards

in different areas.

In response, the Director General Agriculture Sindh has constituted special teams and dispatched them to orchards to monitor the situation and provide on-site guidance to growers.

Agricultural experts noted that rising temperatures and increased humidity were creating favorable conditions for fungal growth, while poor orchard sanitation and delays in preventive measures after rainfall are major factors contributing to the spread of diseases. Farmers have been advised to immediately remove affected parts of plants and continuously monitor their orchards to ensure timely control.

The Director General Agriculture Extension said that field staff were available at all times to assist farmers, urging them to promptly contact their respective agriculture officers in case of any signs of disease.
