ISLAMABAD, (APP - UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 14th May, 2026) Parliamentary Secretary for the Petroleum Division, Mian Khan Bugti, on Thursday informed the National Assembly that the government of Pakistan is making continuous efforts to provide relief to the public despite difficult global and regional conditions.

Responding to a calling attention notice regarding the recent increase in petroleum product prices, he said the government had absorbed billions of rupees in petroleum-related costs to reduce the burden on consumers.

He added that subsidies are being provided, particularly for low-income groups, including motorcycle users and public transport operators, to help ease fuel expenses.

Referring to recent fluctuations in fuel prices, he said global circumstances, including conflict-related pressures, had impacted rates, but the government is still ensuring relief for consumers.

He said several measures have been introduced, including policy steps aimed at supporting working-class citizens.

He also said that fuel price updates are now being reviewed on a weekly basis instead of every 15 days, allowing closer monitoring of international market changes.

He said that efforts are ongoing to further reduce pressure on consumers in coordination with international financial commitments, including arrangements with the IMF.

Mian Khan Bugti further said that Pakistan is not alone in facing high fuel prices, citing international comparisons.

He added that Pakistan’s pricing mechanism is linked to international agreements and market trends, but the government remains committed to providing maximum possible relief within its financial limits.

He also said national standing has improved at the international level and noted that fuel availability has remained stable, with no major shortages or long queues at petrol stations, which he described as a positive development.

He urged citizens to cooperate with government guidelines, including traffic regulations such as motorway speed limits, stressing that both the government and the public must work together to manage challenges effectively.
