Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif says revised prices will come into effect from April 11
ISLAMABAD: (UrduPoint/UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News-April 10th, 2026) Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday reduced the fuel prices, slashing petrol by Rs12 per litre and diesel by Rs135 per litre, citing a decline in international oil rates.
In a televised address, the prime minister said the revised prices would come into effect from April 11, adding that the government had decided to pass the full benefit of the global price drop on to the public.
Following the announcement, the Petroleum Division issued a notification confirming a reduction of Rs11.83 per litre in petrol and Rs134.81 per litre in diesel.
The new rates have been set at Rs366.58 per litre for petrol and Rs385.54 per litre for diesel.
Prices of other petroleum products were also revised. Kerosene oil has been reduced by Rs17.33 per litre to Rs450.15, while light diesel oil has been cut by Rs25.31 to Rs369.72 per litre.
The prime minister said that despite receiving proposals to adjust the relief against government expenditures, he directed authorities to ensure that the entire benefit of falling global prices is transferred directly to consumers.
He said providing relief to farmers and lowering production costs remained a key priority, particularly amid rising input pressures in the agriculture sector.
PM Shehbaz stated that the government had already spent Rs129 billion to control inflation and support citizens, adding that additional fiscal measures had been taken despite financial constraints.
He also confirmed that subsidies on motorcycles and public transport would continue, with further steps under consideration to ease costs for the farming community.
In his address, the prime minister also briefed the nation on diplomatic developments, noting progress in reducing tensions between the United States and Iran and the move towards dialogue following a temporary ceasefire agreement.
He appreciated the efforts of Deputy Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Ishaq Dar, as well as Pakistan’s leadership, for facilitating diplomatic engagement.
He also acknowledged the role of Chief of Defence Forces and COAS Field Marshal Asim Munir in supporting efforts that helped bring both sides to the negotiating table.
