ISLAMABAD, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Apr, 2026) Federal Minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan Engineer Ameer Muqam on Thursday said the government would take practical steps to address the financial and administrative challenges faced by newspapers in Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK).
He was speaking during a meeting with a delegation of the All Kashmir Newspapers Society (AKNS), which called on him to discuss issues confronting the newspaper industry in the region.
The delegation, led by AKNS Secretary General Zulfikar Hussain Butt, included senior journalists Naseer Anwar, Sardar Javed Iqbal, Sarfraz Mir and Hamraz Chaudhry.
They highlighted key concerns, including limited resources, cuts in advertisement quotas and non-payment of outstanding dues, saying these challenges were threatening the sustainability of newspapers in AJK.
Minister Muqam said newspapers in AJK were playing an important role in highlighting the Kashmir issue at the international level and assured the delegation that their concerns would be addressed.
The meeting also discussed measures to strengthen cooperation between the government and the newspaper industry.
The minister reiterated Pakistan’s commitment to supporting the people of Kashmir and promoting the Kashmir issue through diplomatic and other efforts.
Both sides expressed the resolve to continue constructive engagement and enhance cooperation between the government and media organisations.
