Grand Jirga of Hassan Khel elders assures support to authorities

PESHAWAR, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 16th Apr, 2026) Commissioner Peshawar Division, Riaz Khan Mehsud here Thursday chaired a jirga that had been convened to discuss development, address concerns of locals and the prevailing situation in Tehsil Hassan Khel.

The jirga was attended by Deputy Commander 102 Brigade Naveed Ahmad, Provincial Polio Coordinator Shafiullah, SSP Operations Peshawar Farhan Khan, Deputy Commissioner Peshawar. Sanaullah, District Health Officer Muhammad Idrees, Assistant Commissioner Hassan Khel Shahroz Mufti and more than 30 tribal elders representing various communities of the area.

During the meeting, tribal elders highlighted key issues faced by the region including the security situation and public hardships. Participants forwarded important suggestions regarding the improvement of basic health units, provision of facilities in educational institutions, access to clean drinking water, construction and maintenance of roads and uninterrupted supply of electricity and gas.

The elders also proposed organizing the polio campaign at the neighborhood (kandi) level to ensure that every child is vaccinated .

On this occasion, tribal elders reaffirmed their complete disassociation from anti-state elements and pledged full cooperation to security forces in the fight against terrorism.

The Commissioner appreciated the active participation of the tribal elders and their support for government initiatives. He assured that the demands and proposals presented during the jirga would be forwarded to higher authorities and that practical steps would soon be taken for the development of the area.

He also directed the formulation of an effective strategy at the kandi level to strengthen the polio campaign. He instructed the Polio Coordinator, Deputy Commissioner Peshawar, District Health Officer, and SSP Operations to maintain close coordination with tribal elders and develop a joint strategy.
