LAHORE, (UrduPoint / Pakistan Point News - 5th Apr, 2026) The Punjab Agriculture Department has advised cotton farmers to sow their crop by April 30 and cultivate only those varieties approved by the department.

A spokesman for the department said here on Sunday that farmers should maintain a plant-to-plant distance of

12 inches and a row-to-row spacing of 2 feet 6 inches, ensuring a plant population of around 17,500 plants per acre.

The spokesman further stated that farmers should grow at least 10% non-BT varieties along with approved BT varieties so that pests do not develop resistance to BT crops.

Additionally, he said that cotton should preferably be cultivated on ridges, either by adopting mechanical methods or by forming ridges first and then sowing manually.

He further said, “If sowing is done using a drill, keep a row spacing of 2.5 feet.”

Spokesman said that ridge cultivation offers multiple benefits, including improved weed control, better fertilizer efficiency, water conservation and protection of crops from damage caused by rainfall.
